The mission of KNUST is to provide an environment for teaching, research and entrepreneurship training in Science and Technology for development of Ghana and Africa. KNUST will also provide service to the community, be open to all the people of Ghana and positioned to attract scholars, industrialists and entrepreneurs from Africa and other international communities.
The Water Research Institute (WRI) is one of the 13 institutions of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). It was formed in 1996 from the merger of the Institute of Aquatic Biology and the Water Resources Research Institute.
WRI has a mandate to conduct research into water and related resources. WRI generates and provides scientific information, strategies and services towards the rational development, utilisation and management of the water resources of Ghana in support of the socio–economic advancement of the country, especially in the agriculture, health, industry, energy, transportation, education and tourism sectors.
Training, Research and Networking for Development (TREND) Group was established in April 1989. TREND was conceived within the framework of the International Training Network for Water and Wastes Management (ITN) Programme which was promoted by the World Bank and was one of four centres established in Africa under the Programme.
WaterAid is an international NGO dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people. WaterAid's vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and effective sanitation.
The Ghana programme was established in 1985 and it has since been operating through partnerships with local NGOs. These NGOs, eight of them at the moment, perform the day to day implementation and project management functions while WaterAid provides financial and technical support. WaterAid Ghana now has projects in seven out of the ten regions in Ghana.
